Prof. Dr.-Ing. Olaf Selle

Publicly appointed and sworn expert of the Saxony Chamber of Engineers for Urban Civil Engineering and Pipeline Civil Engineering

Prof. Olaf Selle graduated in civil engineering from the TH Leipzig in 1972. After four years as a research student, he became a research associate at the Institute for Engineering and Civil Engineering Leipzig of the Academy of Building of the GDR in 1976. After working as head of department, division head and deputy director, he took over the management of the institute in 1989, which at that time had about 400 employees, until its dissolution in 1991.

In 1979, Prof. Olaf Selle wrote his doctoral thesis on the subject of the stress on buried pipelines. His dissertation was the basis for the following normative regulation of the planning and execution of buried sewage pipes in the GDR.

In 1992, he took over the function of managing director of the Leipzig Materials Research and Testing Institute (MFPA Leipzig), which emerged from the institute. Under his leadership, the company became one of Germany's leading testing institutes in the fields of civil engineering. He left MFPA Leipzig in 2001 as part of the privatisation.

From 2001 to 2012, Prof. Olaf Selle was head of the pipe testing department at IMA Dresden and developed one of the most powerful testing departments in Germany in the field of water supply from a small working group. In 2005, parallel to his work in Dresden, he returned to MFPA Leipzig as Head of the Department of Structural Engineering, where he was Head of the Civil Engineering Division from 2007 until his retirement in 2017.

In 1992, Prof. Olaf Selle became a lecturer at the TH (now HTWK) Leipzig and at the BTU Cottbus. Subsequently, he taught at the University of Leipzig from 1995 and was appointed honorary professor in the field of urban water management in 2002. Prof. Olaf Selle was head of this teaching area as part of the Department of Infrastructure and Resource Management until his retirement in 2015.

In 1997, he was appointed as an expert of the Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik (DIBt) in the expert committee for wastewater pipelines. In 2002, he was publicly appointed and sworn in as an expert by the Leipzig Chamber of Industry and Commerce in the field of civil engineering, in particular underground pipeline construction.

In 2001, he founded the company that is now Selle Consult.

Prof. Olaf Selle is married, has three sons and 8 grandchildren.
